A little truth never seems to be in fashon these days.

I have not written a post this month because there is nothing for me to argue about. Subjects like the danger of Walmart,Climate Change ,and a couple other issues seem so clear to me that having to write about them is like trying to convince someone the sun provides heat to the Earth.

Therefore I have kept my ideas to myself.......that is until I made the mistake of watching Sunday's morning opinion shows and Morning Joe this morning. The subject was the debt and the so named fiscal cliff.

It is obvious to anyone with half a brain that ,as a country,we must balance the budget and reduce our national debt.  The debt is composed of three big items. National Defence,Social Security.and Medicare.

These are the budget items I would like to address in this post.

1. Social Security- Social Security is not a budget item. It is a separate program that not only supports itself but has and does still run a surplus.  The only reason is it discussed as a budget item is that Congress has borrowed three trillion dollars from the program to pay for shortfalls caused by tax cuts for the rich and wars around the globe. The question I pose is; should working Americans allow Congress to renege on it's debt to them while refusing to raise taxes on the wealthy? Remember the wealthy always make money in a time of war. I say" PAY IT BACK".

2.  Medicare: Medicare is part of your FICA taxes and amounts to 1.5 % of your earnings plus an employee match. The reason Medicare is in trouble is two fold. One is the unfunded Prescription drug benefit passed by the same Republicans who now decry about the programs insolvency. Could it be possible that they passed this bill on purpose to force Medicare into debt ? I believe so because passing this bill goes against everything Republicans profess to believe in.

The Medicare program is fixable  with just a few changes that I have mentioned in other posts and it would be redundant to go over them again.

3. The national defense. Yes we can cut our military budget by quite a bit without hurting the security of our country. We could close many of our 900 bases around the world and allow countries ,like Japan, support and pay for their own national defense. Foe example we could build one new Aircraft Carrier instead of two. We could stop military action around the globe and bring our troops home. There are many more cuts I can mention but will leave that for a later blog. As a veteran I can think of many.

In closing I would like to say that there are no reasons Congress should cut Social Security or Medicare. If they do Many of us may as well just jump off a cliff because we would be a burden to our children.
