This is how Empires fall. We're there.

The Republicans fiction machine has implanted in the public consciousness that taxing corporations and the richest among us somehow "puts our children's future at risk, saddles them with debt." The truth is that slashing domestic programs now is what puts our children at risk, right now.

It's not a matter of having no resources, it's that we've chosen the military, the rich, and corporations over the health and education of our children and other citizens. A matter of priorities in funding.

Know what's broke? The military. In the same way that people claim Medicaire and other govt programs are broke and refuse to fund them, they seem to have no problem continue funding a military that is financed at a rate 700% greater than the second place contender.

This is how Empires fall. We're there.

It's all about misguided beliefs. Fact is SSI is self funded, it is a trust. Please check out our history, before SS the poverty rate was almost 30%, mostly made up of seniors. It is one of the best economic programs ever. If you don't want these benifits, turn them down when it's your turn to recieve them, if you are recieving them stop taking it. What is so wrong with society helping each of us live better and longer?

As I wrote yesterday ,I will spend the rest of my life, like the rest of the country, dealing with the consequences of the Cheney-Bush administration's two most fateful economic decisions -- to cut taxes rather than to pay off the national debt, and then to fight two incredibly costly wars on the national credit card rather than dare to ask the American people to pay for them in cash. We can't see the end of the problem these men made
