I am against abortion. I always have and always will be. I believe it to be a sin. Recently an event happened to a young lady I know that made this issue more personal to me. This young person became diagnosed with a medical condition that makes any further pregnancies dangerous to her and the fetuses life. She was told not to become pregnant again. She is quite young and still has many child bearing years left. She was also told that because of her condition the pill could could cause a stroke and even worse.
When I think of her I wonder what she would do if she accidentally became pregnant. Should she chance it and try to have the baby or should she listen to her Dr's and have an abortion? I would not council this young lady because the stakes are too high for me to inject my religious beliefs or morals on her decision.
It just seems to me that some decisions about abortions are medical and need to be made between the woman and her Dr. It is not the business of me or the Government, let alone the Church, to interfere in any way. Some things are just too complicated to have an absolute answer to them. We need thoughtful discussions to come up with answers to the problems our country faces not battle lines on either side of a complicated issue, While I am at it I would like to state that I think a for profit health care system is also a sin. We have people who are going to die because of the high cost or the inability to receive proper care. There are even people who have Ins, with high deductibles that will forgo treatment because of money issues, We are a better people than that ! Aren't we?
